Telepizza launches a line of products for vegans with The Vegetarian Butcher and Violife

Brands promote a new lifestyle through food: more sustainable and environmentally friendly food.

57% of Spaniards are open to incorporating plant-based foods into their diet to take care of the planet.

January 28, 2021. The reality is that our planet is in a process of change and food is intimately related to it. Eating habits are no longer the same and society demands companies committed to sustainability and the environment. That is why brands such as Telepizza, which has been promoting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for years as part of its commitment to the United Nations Global Compact, is now launching a new line of 100% vegan products to respond to the existing social demand and the desire of that 57% of society that indicates that it would be open to incorporating plant-based foods into its diet to take care of the planet.

The pioneer in delivery Pizza, with more than 30 years of history in our country, launches Las Veguis, its first line of vegan products from the hand of The Vegetarian Butcher, an industry leader in the manufacture of food based on vegetable protein, not genetically modified, with ten years of experience leading the market and owned by Unilever, and Violife, the leading brand of vegetable cheeses with the widest range of products on the market.

Nacho Martín, Chief Supply Chain Officer of Food Delivery Brands, the restaurant group to which Telepizza belongs, says: "Food safety is a fundamental pillar at Telepizza. For the launch of the vegan line, which we have been working on for a long time, we have studied the best options and avoided mistakes made by other brands. For years now, vegetarians have had many products on our menu (Telepizzas, ice cream, salads...), but to create a product that is 100% suitable for vegans we needed to do it with safety and maximum transparency, with the help of partners such as The Vegetarian Butcher and Violife, who have extensive experience in the sector".

One year after bringing The Vegetarian Butcher to the food service channel in Spain, we are delighted to partner with Telepizza and offer meat lovers a fabulous meat-free experience," says Ana Palencia, Director of Sustainability and Communications at Unilever Spain, " This partnership is an important step in offering everyone absolutely vegan options to introduce to their diet.

For his part, Hugo Verkuil, CEO of The Vegetarian Butcher, admits to being excited about this agreement: "Ten years ago we started with the dream of making meat lovers fall in love by offering them all the taste and texture, based on vegetable protein and without sacrificing anything. Now, Telepizza consumers will be able to enjoy our alternative to chicken pieces and minced meat in their range of vegan Telepizzas".

"From Violife, an Upfield brand, we want to bring plant-based or vegetable food to all consumers, whether they are vegans, vegetarians, flexitarians, lactose intolerant or interested in taking care of themselves and the planet," says Cristina Tomas, Marketing Project Lead at Violife. And she adds: "With Violife it is no longer necessary to choose between taste or sustainability, nor is it always necessary to eat the same thing. For us, the key is to enjoy and not to sacrifice. It is becoming easier and more accessible to enjoy 100% vegan options and this collaboration with Telepizza demonstrates the unstoppable progress towards a more respectful food with the planet and animals".

The action was born as part of its commitment and adherence to the United Nations Global Compact, with the aim of allocating a large part of its resources to promote the fulfillment of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, focused on ending poverty, protecting the planet and ensuring prosperity by 2030.

Telepipzza dedicated part of its 2018 and 2019 efforts to fighting inequalities, promoting SDG number 10 with projects such as Juntos Crecemos, in alliance with Down España for the recruitment of its associates, or LaLiga Genuine Santander, through the recruitment of soccer players with intellectual disabilities. After this, in 2020, the brand continued to work on promoting SDG 10 through the implementation of an LGTBIQ+ inclusion project while beginning to shape a new line of action focused on achieving SDGs 11 and 12: sustainable communities and responsible production and consumption.

"At Telepizza, we have been working for a long time so that everyone can find their place at the table. With the launch of our 100% vegan product line, we continue to do what unites us by making available to our customers a new option based on vegetable ingredients so that vegans and non-vegans can access our usual product while being more sustainable and environmentally responsible," explains Miguel Justribó, Chief Purpose Officer of Food Delivery Brands, the restaurant group to which Telepizza belongs.

Brand commitment.

New consumer habits and environmental challenges are changing the scenario of mass consumption, catering and distribution. Telepizza has long been committed to the need to reduce the impact on the environment and the search for sustainability, and has therefore reinforced important aspects of the production chain such as packaging. They already use boxes made of recycled cardboard and have eliminated the use of plastic in orders as they no longer use bags in deliveries.

In addition, Telepizza works to avoid food waste by developing a responsible production system based on an on-demand processing protocol and monitoring that prevents overproduction and consequent waste. In the event that waste is produced, it is donated to feed mills to continue shaping the circular economy cycle. Finally, with regard to the vehicle fleet, changes are imminent: cities such as Segovia and Madrid already have bicycles for delivery and are working to incorporate more electric or hybrid motorcycles and thus reduce CO2 emissions, helping to create green and more sustainable cities.

Las Veguis, product line description

One of the obstacles that its followers encounter when it comes to enjoying this type of food is the price, a more limited offer and the taste. That is why the company is committed to a range of vegan products that will be sold at the same price as the rest of Telepizzas Gourmet and Quadrollers.

This entry into the vegan world is materialized with the incorporation of a complete line of products. There are three varieties of vegan Telepizza that incorporate Violife cheese as ingredients, and NoPollo and NoPicada from The Vegetarian Butcher, and as snacks, 100% vegan Nuggets from the latter brand. All the products, with high quality raw materials and the usual flavor, are delivered withtheir own packaging to avoid contamination between foods. As for Telepizza's vegan products, customers can find:

  • TelePizza Montaña Vegui: tomato, vegan cheese, mushroom, onion and NoPollo.
  • TelePizza Barbacoa Vegui: barbecue sauce, vegan cheese, tomato, NoPicada, corn and NoPollo.
  • Telepizza Campesina Vegui: tomato, vegan cheese, mushroom, onion, roasted red bell pepper and black olives.
  • Nuggets; 100% vegetables made with NoPollo.

From today, Las Veguis become part of the Telepizza menu and will be present in the more than 700 stores that the company has throughout the country. " We are convinced that our customers will take this campaign for what it is, a way to "do what unites us" and enjoy a Telepizza with everyone at the table," says Justribó.
